The Kate Factor: Kate Hudson

Time for another Kate-inspiration! I know I know, it's been months since my last (first) Kate Factor. I was beginning to forget about it! 

So, today I am doing Kate Hudson. She is my other favorite Kate. She is most famous for her roles in Almost Famous, How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and my personal favorite, Bride Wars. Kate Hudson is most often seen wearing very boho chic, casual outfits. She sticks to neutral colors and flared jeans.

Boho chic used to be "my look". I've always loved browns and greens and lots of jewelry, etc. When I cut my hair I felt like I couldn't really pull it off anymore, but I'm realizing that may not be the case. So, thank you, Kate Hudson, for convincing me to try again and falling back in love with some things in my closet.

For some reason, I've been making poor shoe choices lately. (I'm such a baby since I don't dance anymore.) For example, today I decided it would be a good idea to walk to school in these boots, which are the highest heels I own. I now have a new set of blisters to add to my collection that I've gathered over the last few days. I guess flats it is for me for the next few!

Although it wasn't raining while we were taking pictures, it did rain earlier today. Therefore, I decided these pictures required my awesome, clear, bubble umbrella.

There are one of the most comfortable pairs of pants that I own. I have a love/hate relationship with while pants. They look so chic and awesome, but they're white. Literally the hardest color to keep clear, ever. For that exact reason, I always buy cheap white pants. Because when (because I know it's going to happen eventually) I finally do stain them for good, I don't feel too bad. These pants in particular were only $12. The most comfortable $12 pants I own.

How To: Easy Pattern Mixing

For those who love the pattern-mixing trend but are unsure of where to start, this is a great example of how to do it. Mixing a floral skirt with polka-dotted shoes is a great combo and it's not so in our face. Tie in a matching belt and a neutral(ish) shirt and you are good to go! 

Inner Child

These are obviously from a while ago. 1) There is snow on the ground and 2) my hair is longer. I didn't get a chance to get any pictures done this weekend or today, so I decided to find some forgotten ones from before. On this day, Liz and I decided to go to the park and have some fun. Sometimes you just have to let out your inner child.

Alright, now this may sound a little contradictory, but I don't really shop at Hot Topic all the time. However the last time I went in there, I got a bunch of coupons for 50% off basically, so when they were redeemable, Garrett and I had to take advantage of it. He was able to get a few band t-shirts, and I a pair of shorts and a tank, plus we both got Avengers shirts for the new movie, which comes out in a couple weeks. 

I knew bright jeans were the way to go with this top, but I didn't want to match it with my yellow jeans for fear of looking almost too costume-y. Maybe for when we go to the movie! I also couldn't resist pairing my lightning bolt ring with my necklace. The necklace was a Christmas gift from my niece a couple years ago, but I also just really like lightning bolts (Harry Potter, Lightning McQueen, Storm...)!

Is anyone else excited for the new Avengers movie?!

A Trusted Top

I've had this top for so long, I almost couldn't remember where I got it from. I don't wear it very often, but every few months when I'm really struggling to find something to wear, I always go back to this trusted top and a belt, which is why I don't have the heart to give it up just yet. Do you have any items of clothing that you keep around for a back-up?

A Dress With a Story

Without fail, at least 25% of the time when I get new tights, I managed to rip them the first time I put them on. Luckily with these ones the hole is not quite as noticeable, but it is irritating nonetheless.

Interesting (well, maybe not that interesting) story about this dress. I got it a little over two years ago specifically to wear to my cousin, Ashley's, bridal shower. I was a bridesmaid so the bridal shower was just the first of many semi-formal events I had coming. So after the bridal shower, I packed away this dress because I knew I couldn't wear it again to a wedding-related thing (at the time, I thought it was too formal to everyday life). Once it was packed away, I completely forgot about it until a couple weeks ago when my mom and Bob moved, and finally grabbed it last weekend before I went back to school. The interesting part is that I chose to wear it today, not realizing when I got dressed that it's the 17th, my cousin's wedding anniversary!

So, Happy Anniversary Ashley and Andy. I wore this dress in honor of you without even realizing it!

Heart Dress

 Saturday was such a beautiful day! I spent the day painting one of the bedrooms in my parent's new house and then Saturday night I went out with Garrett and his new bff, Lucas.

I didn't know how badly I've been wanting a dress with a heart cut-out until I saw this one! The houndstooth is perfect and I love that it's all black and grey. It's perfect for pairing with neon accents, which I'm completely obsessing over. My step-dad, Bob, said it reminded him of Batman. Awesome.

Band Shirt

When I was at The Pretty Reckless concert, I (obviously) wanted to buy a t-shirt, but I ran into the problem of the merchandise table only taking cash. Thinking I was super smart, I went to the other section of the bar to use their ATM, only to find it broken. I was really bummed that I wasn't able to get a shirt of my favorite band at their concert. So after I got home, I immediately went onto their website and found this beauty. It's not a concert t-shirt, like I wanted, but I almost love this more. 

I'm also bummed I didn't get a close up of my shoes. I love Converse, I own three pairs currently. The ones I'm wearing are my favorite. They're baby blue with cloud animals on them. Awesome!

Glamural: Betsey Johnson

I have always loved Betsey Johnson's line. Her style is so fun and over the top and I have been building a collection of her items. I love how she mixes girly, floral pieces with edgier things like skulls and studs. (I feel like I've said that before...) Although most of her line is a bit out of my budget right now, I use her as inspiration for my outfits all the time, like my outfit post from yesterday. Is there a designer you identify with?

If it looks like I cut my hair again, it's because I did! When I cut it a few weeks ago, I went a little longer than I wanted just to play it safe. I was unhappy with it so I finally took the plunge and cut it to the length I want. I'm pretty sure this is the shortest it has ever been. I wasn't sure at first, but after a day, I totally love it! 

This might be my new favorite outfit. I call it my Material Girl/Betsey Johnson look on a budget. I love mixing girly pieces like a pink floral skirt, with edgier things like my leather jacket and my stud ring. And hot pink heels pretty much make any outfit!

Pink is my new favorite color. I'm not really sure where it came from, but I saw these shoes in Forever 21 during my mom and my shopping spree, and I had to have them. Then I went to Sephora and found Betsey Johnson's new nail polish line through O.P.I. I cannot believe how perfect this pink is. Betsey nailed it again!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter! Mine was pretty low-key. My great aunt Char and my uncle Jon came over to the new house and we just chatted and unpacked some things. Then later Garrett and I went to see Wrath of the Titans, which was WAY better than the first (seeing as I fell asleep during the first one). 

On Friday my afternoon class was cancelled so I came home early and my mom and I went shopping (of course!) and saw Titanic in 3D (which was amazing!). My mom picked out this skirt because it reminds her of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. I don't really remember because I haven't seen the movie in years, but I'll take her word for it. Either way, I love it! It's twirly.
